Linked data and discovery: Past, present, and future through the eyes of the Discovery Affinity Group

The LD4 Discovery Affinity Group was formed in 2019 to provide a space for discussion and sharing knowledge about the intersection of linked data and discovery. Recognizing the increasing focus or reference to AI in various library and discovery areas, this past year we started a series on AI, linked data, and discovery. We began by walking through fundamental concepts for machine learning and AI, and are working our way up to generative AI concepts, while also identifying overlap with linked data. In this LD4 conference session, in addition to providing a recap of the history of the group, we will also review topics and themes addressed in the series so far, and ask for input and suggestions regarding possible future topics.

Join members of the LD4 Arts Affinity Group for an informal drop-in session to connect with some of our co-conveners and learn more about the Affinity Group. We’ll share a “year in review” of presentations from our monthly(ish) calls, answer any questions about our meeting logistics, and simply say “hello”!

We expanded our scope this year and would love your input on the kind programming you would like to see in future calls.

Our scope: We are a community of practice exploring the unique challenges of modeling, creating, querying, and visualizing linked data across the arts including (but not limited to):
--Visual Arts & Design: fine arts, craft, architecture, graphic design, and artists’ books
--Performing Arts: music, dance, theater, and performance art
--Time-Based Media: film, video, sound recordings, and interactive media
--Events: exhibitions, festivals, performances, and auctions
--Documentation: ephemera, performance recordings, programs, exhibition catalogs, provenance records, and artist files

Wikidata Affinity Group: Working with Corporate Bodies for EMCO

This session, presented by PCC EMCO Wikidata Registry Coordinators, will introduce the group and its work over the past year supporting Wikidata as a shared platform for entity management within the Entity Management Cooperative (EMCO). The presenters will provide an overview of the application profile developed for representing corporate bodies in Wikidata, covering its key modeling choices along with the most important property, qualifier, and reference requirements. The remainder of the session will be hands-on: attendees will use a curated dataset of corporate bodies to create and edit Wikidata items directly, applying the application profile in practice, with Coordinators available throughout to answer questions and troubleshoot.
